To answer the question of the hour, I added a general guide to liquid intercooling to the tech section.

Let’s see … it’s been a while because … I was on a business trip … oh yeah and it was in Hawaii. But I can’t say it was all work and now that I am back in town I will be reorganizing the site slightly and reopening the forums. I will update this page as soon as the forums are back up.
Update: The forums are back up and as of now I am making several style sheet changes to make Internet Explorer start playing nicer.

Here is a pic of the rebuilt CA18DET. I am also working to publish a few more tech articles this week so check back soon.

It’s alive!!! I am not sure how I continue to build CA18DET’s that sound like diesel turbos, (ok, ok I haven’t finished the exhaust yet) but the car is sick. As it sits now, the rebuilt motor has a new T3 super 60 turbo, top mount equal length manifold, 3in unmuffled exhaust (it’s loud, the RSR exhaust will be added shortly), Tial wastegate, 9lb flywheel and 9lb driveshaft. Next up is the Megasquirt, 550cc injectors and 1bar. 300whp here I come.
In other news, something really big has happened recently and the direction of Driftopia.com is going to change. For the time being the forums are closed and the membership drive is on hold. But don’t worry, Driftopia is not going anywhere. I will still post to this blog regularly with updates and new tech articles.
And finally, the t-shirts have turned out much better than anticipated. I will post pictures of the final shirt once they go to print. Let me know if you are interested in one.

I am a minimalist by every sense of the word and as such I am on a mission to simplify the CA18DET motor any way I can. I am releasing a few new tech articles this week focused around this idea. The first one is the CA18DET Water Mod (Simplifying Water Circulation).
On another note, the Driftopia.com member drive is about to begin. Basically, I want some active members on the forum side of things so the first 25 or so active members on the site will get Driftopia.com t-shirts. I know, I know, shameless advertising but these are shirts you will actually want to wear. I will post up a pic when the shirt design is done.

Like many my Nissan motor sat on top of my engine bay instead of in it due to Nismo motor mounts. Not anymore … Hockey Puck Motor Mounts (lowering the CA18DET).
June 29, 2007
Ahh, more delays in the project CA18DET rebuild. Everything is in place, new external wastegate, new T3 turbo, liquid intercooler, etc… but unfortunately the new top mount manifold causes the T3 turbo to almost hit the master cylinder. Long story short, I am running Nismo mounts that cause the CA to sit a little higher than necessary so I am now making custom mounts to lower the motor about 1″. I am making hockey puck motor mounts and living in the south, hockey pucks are hard to come by. I overnight shipped a set so hopefully they will get here today and project CA18DET will get fired up this weekend. In the meantime, I am getting ready to release part 2 in the CA18DET swap series and have added a new tech article, clocking the SR T25 turbo .
June 27, 2007
I’ve created a new section on the top nav bar to centralize some of the CA18DET specific information that first time swappers will need. Right now it includes the CA18DET FAQ and a new tech article, CA18DET Vacuum, Boost, Water and Oil Routing.

Since Tial decided not to ship my wastegate 3 weeks a go when I ordered it, I’ve got a little bit of time to push out some more tutorials. I just finished the lightweight aluminum driveshaft install and I will have more up sometime tomorrow. Also coming next week is the unveiling of project CA18DET’s finished rebuild that now includes a t3 turbo.

A new tech article is up. installing a SR20DET flywheel onto the CA18DET. Enjoy!

I’m laughing at myself for forgetting the “most important part” of web design. Read more here. Also, the motor gets started tomorrow, check back Friday for some major updates.

We’re back from NOPI drift and all I can say is that it was amazing although I was a little disappointed to see no CA18DET powered cars. Overall I took about 500+ pictures so I will post some of the better ones up shortly but right now I have a lot of work to do. The new flywheel and clutch is going on the motor today and then the fresh CA18DET is going back into the coupe. Till then, here is a teaser pic from NOPI.

I’m off to NOPI Drift in St. Louis this weekend.
Project CA18DET has been updated with lots of rebuild pics. Check back next week for part 6 of the project when the motor gets reinstalled with lots of goodies.
Forums are now open and part 1 of the CA18DET swap guides has been completed. Look for lots of new tech articles during the month of June as well as part 2 of the swap guides. As always, follow the links to the right for more tech, tutorials, project updates and more and swing by the forums and say hello.
